I have finally had a tiny bit of time to spend working on quilts. With my sweet husband out of town the last couple of weeks, it has been a bit of a juggling act. So, I pulled out a quilt I started last summer. With the re-release of Flea Market Fancy, I picked it back up and started stitching. Then, I started trimming. And the trimming started to bother me. The pretty pieces that I have been hoarding for years (blue tiles! blue seeds!) started to pile up in the ‘waste’ bin.

I looked at the pieces and thought, ‘those must be good for something!’ I started to fiddle with the scraps.
And I realized I could trim these little pieces into already assembled half square triangles. And from there, you are just a couple seams away from pinwheels. So, after a few minutes of trimming and a few minutes of sewing, I came up with this. And there are a lot more scraps to be trimmed!
And just for fun, since I am pretty durn proud of my little salvage project, I would love to do a *little* impromptu giveaway. Guess how big my finished pinwheel block is and leave a little note in the comments. All the correct answers will find their way into a hat and one lucky person will win a Flea Market Fancy charm pack from our little shop.
I’ll close the comments before I head to bed on Wednesday.Happy Guessing!

Very cute! I think you have a 5″ x 5″ block there!
I would guess that it is currently 6.5 inches square. Teeny little pieces you got there!
I think it is 6 x 6. Very cute!
Oh my goodness, those look seriously tiny. I’m guessing you have a 3″ block?
Seriously tiny! I’m going to guess it’s a 6×6″ block! Whatever size, it’s wonderful!
That looks seriously tiny (and super cute!)…I’ll guess 5 inch square
I’m guessing 6″ square — it’s adorable!
Lovely. And great job not wasting those cute little HSTs. It’s 6×6 inches. Actually, right now it’s 6.5 x 6.5, but it would be 6×6 finished. (Though, I don’t really feel like I’m guessing since that photo up there has your cutting mat grid in it!)
Wait! I forgot to account for all the seam allowances BETWEEN the pinwheels! It’s even smaller than 6×6. Now, you have me doing quilt math …
That is so cute! and a great idea. I’m guessing all the HST’s are 1.5″ square, so the block would finish at 6″ square. Is that right??
My guess is 9×9
Ha! Was this a test to see if we noticed your cutting mat under the pinwheel??? Very cute block that will finish at 6″—-at least I hope so! Thanks for a great giveaway.
I am guessing 3″x3″! So pretty!
This is so cute! 6″x6″?
I’m guessing that those squares finish at one inch, making the unfinished block 6.5 x 6.5 inches square. Super awesome
Amazing, I love it! I’m going to say it’s 3×3″. I think the awesome factor is even higher due to what I can only imagine is a an incredible amount of patience that goes into making something so tiny!
I guess it’s 6 x 6
I think it will finish at 3 x 3 – amazing at any size
My guess is 6 x 6. Beautiful whatever size though.
VERY cute!!! I’m guessing 6×6″. i’ve been doing something similar in making wonky star blocks…started with bigger ones and then using the scraps up to make smaller ones before cutting more fabric – it’s a fun challenge
Your block is beautiful!
Looks like a 6.5″ square to me.
What gorgeous pinwheel scrappiness!!
I’m guessing that your block is currently 4.25″ and is going to finish at a cute and tiny 3.75″
I’m going with 5 1/2″ X 5 1/2″ i just did this with a bit of my own….they are such tiny bits and so difficult to iron flat too. lol
so cute!!! I’m guessing 6″x6″
I’m pretty sure it’s 6″x6″ — i’m loving 1/2 square triangles these days
I think it’s 6 X 6.
Hhmm, my guess would be 5″ square.
Those pinwheels are very cute. I would do this, but I’m a tad clumsy so I would probably injure myself trying to iron those! lol!
My guess is 3.5 in by 3.5 in.
I guess 6″ by 6″, very cute!
I am going to guess it’s a 5″ x 5″ block unfinished. Those look like 1.25″ HSTs to me.
Wow, that is super tiny. My guess is 5″ square block.
I’m guessing it will finish to 6 inches square. So cute.
I guess it’s currently 3.5″ x 3.5″. It’s so pretty! Thanks so much for the chance to win!
Best of luck surviving solo! Hope your husband is coming home soon. You can make it!
Darling “salvage” project! 6″x6″?
2″ currently, but will end up at 1.5 X 1.5
I would guess 6 x 6, but it sure is cute.
I would say 6 x 6 inches. cute! love those scrappy pinwheels!
I am going to guess 4.5 inches including the seam allowance (4 inches finished)…that is my final answer….I think.
